Darryl’s Wood Fire Grill 2.0

407774_10151181579391078_735052045_nFor those of you native to our fair city, Darryl’s Wood Fire Grill holds many a memory. Whether these memories are fond or that of disgust is irrelevant. The new and improved Darryl’s is now a beacon of what I have always considered to be Greensboro’s most powerful asset;  potential.  Darryl’s has taken a dream and turned into a reality, rising from it’s own ashes and showing us that it is possible to start again; that it is possible to become more than you once were, and that it is possible to be family friendly and delicious. If you haven’t heard the story of Darryl’s, I’ll give you a brief rundown. A once chain restaurant gone under finds new life by the hands of a local restaurateur where it now thrives with a new menu, a new chef, and new culinary vision. If you really want a taste what Darryl’s is now, simply drive by. Located on High Point road, Darryl’s now sports outdoor fire pits, a new outdoor bar, a polished over exterior, and a parking lot that is perpetually filled. While outward appearances can sometimes be deceiving, this is one instance where you can, and should, judge a book by it’s cover. While the overall layout of the interior is virtually the same, the once drab and dusty brick establishment is now a well light, clean, and funkier version of it’s former self. Sporting it’s classic theme based seating arrangements, one can enjoy their delicious meals anywhere from the over-the-bar carousel booth, a fully barred in jail cell, or in a theatre/cinema themed room (my personal favorite) .  Even with all of the improvements to the atmosphere of the restaurant, the cuisine is truly where the new Darryl’s shines. Made-in-house crackers accompany creamy spinach artichoke dip, chicken tenders that are hand-breaded are tossed in a not-too-spicy buffalo sauce, expertly cut steaks are smoked and seared to perfection, and did I mention smore’s? Every item on the the new menu is artfully crafted yet leave you with a home cooked feeling. Looking for a great burger? Look no further than the infamous Pub Burger, a smokey 8 oz. patty topped with a peppery pub sauce and fried shallots; it is, in my opinion, the best burger in Greensboro. I implore you to not take my word for it, go and try it for yourselves. One last thing, Darryl’s is one of forty restaurants around the world that offer liquid nitrogen drinks. Try it, love it, thank me later. Oh and as always,

Stay Hungry.
